Helping to Prevent Homelessness in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont

See I will not forget you; I have carved you on the palm of my hand

 Isaiah 49:15-16

Mission Statement

Our mission is to prevent homelessess and to meet the needs of the homeless population in the Northeast Kingdom that results from unemployment and underemployment and other causal factors. Our objectives are to support and provide financial assistance to help those who are homeless or may become homeless by securing the support that will empower each individual with, love, caring and outreach from us - their community family. We are a Christian organization that will provide financial support based on need to people from all walks of life.

Primary Activity

The primary activity is to raise funds to provide financial support to individuals and families who have encountered unexpected situations that could lead to their becoming homeless without one time financial support. Homeless individuals may be eligible for financial support for shelter for a minimum of one week, or until transitional services can be arranged. We help individuals in need especially victims of domestic violence; parolees, transient homeless people, families left homeless due to fires or other causes, and other individuals as their need arises. We work collaboratively with local area outreach agencies, we are listed in the 211 directory, and we take donations at anytime of the year. To donate click here.

NEK Special Project: HelpFund

Please support the HelpFund: We are members of the Community Partners of the Northeast Kingdom. Due to the size of the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) we have two Community Partner Advisory Councils, one serving Caledonia and southern Essex and one serving Orleans and northern Essex. The HelpFund is administered by representatives from varied area organizations who share the common goal of serving their communities and assisting those in need.

Purpose: The purpose of the HelpFund is to respond in a coordinated way to the requests for emergency financial assistance of households considered to be at risk of losing their housing. To donate directly to the HelpFund you can go to www.helpfundcaledoniasouthernessex.com or www.helpfundorleansnorthernessex.com

Statewide Special Project: VT Farmers Utility Bills

If you are a farmer, friend of a farmer, or a supporter of our Vermont Farmers please considered making a donation to help defray the cost of farmer's utility bills during 2010. Joshua House has received many calls from local farmers for support with their electric bills. We have helped 7 farms already, two in May of 2010. We also work collaboratively with various agencies to come up with the dollars needed. When a dairy farmer in particular has their power disconnected. Their bulk tank cannot be cooled, their cows cannot be milked, in some cases their feed machines are electronically run and computer driven. We would like to help farmers meet these utility bills, allowing them more discretionary funds to purchase seed, or other supplies and materials. When you donate you must name the county in where you want your donation to be dispersed to those farmers living within that county. There is a statewide option in which the funds will then be used on a high needs basis first.

General Statement of Assurance:

All funds donated through Joshua House, Inc are payable ONLY to vendors. We never give money to individuals. 100% of funds donated to restriced programs or projects are 100% back into that program or project. Funds to help run Joshua House (which is a very low budget) are raised through several events and from some of our monthly pledge donors. Please consider being a monthly pledge donor.
